Safari Rifle—-9mm Afrika Model Mauser
This 9mm Mauser is a special custom hunting rifle created by the Mauserworks in Obendorf from about 1900 up to WWI. The action is based of the famous 98 Mauser design and this rifle was heavily marketed as an African big game rifle. Incredibly the rifles weighs very little and feels as if it is a natural part of your body. It has two triggers, a normal trigger and a set/hair trigger. The bolt handle is turned down 90 degrees and has a spoon handle shape, which allows for extremely smooth and easy working of the action.
While the Mausers were marketed heavily in the US, Americans never caught on. This particular rifle was inherited from my great uncle when he passed away about 15 years ago. Due to rarity of ammunition in the states my uncle (gunsmith and collector) had to make his own ammo by fireforming .30-06 brass and reloading them with casted 220 grain 9mm bullets.
