Hotchkiss Revolving Cannon,
Design by American Benjamin Hotchkiss, the Hotchkiss Revolving Cannon was a multibarrel cannon that was operation similarly to the Gatling Gun. Unlike the Gatling Gun the Hotchkiss Cannon fired large 37mm explosive rounds with 16oz projectiles. The gun used five revolving barrels and was top fed with ten round clips. The cannon performed admirably in testing around 1876-77, and was adopted by the US Navy in 1877. The cannon served well as a weapon to counter small torpedo boats, which had just recently been invented. Over time the gun would become very popular and could be found with navies all over the world.
